How to Buy the Right Clothes for Your Toddler?

So, are you either of these: you’re a first-time parent and you want to buy clothes for your incoming baby? You already have a kid, but it was a long time ago and you need some sort of a refresher? Or perhaps, you go to your friend’s baby shower and you want to give their baby a present and you happen to think about baby clothes?

Well, the truth is that there are some things that you need to consider. First off, do not follow the age requirement on each clothing, but rather, take into account the actual size of the baby.

A friend of mine gave birth to a 10-pound baby and I am pretty sure that the clothes that are deemed “appropriate for his age” will not fit him. Also, there are some that are born smaller than others. It is really something that you have to think about.

Furthermore, babies grow quite fast. If they are still relatively small at 2 months, the same cannot be said when they reach the 7th month and so on (especially, given that breastmilk and baby formulas contain nutrients that will help them grow optimally).

When Attending a Baby Shower

Okay, let’s say that you are not a parent, but you are attending your friend (or family member’s) baby shower and you want to give gifts for their baby. Most people would just blindly give clothes that are fit for 0-3-month-old babies. Do not follow this crowd.

Instead, opt for clothing that is appropriate for 6-9 month-old babies to ensure that their babies can still use it after 3 months.

Although it is uncommon for friends or family to gift baby diapers, adding this nice touch would make your friend or family member happy.

‘Tis the Season

If your country experiences four seasons a year, that means that you also have to take into account the changing seasons as well.

For instance, if their baby is somewhere between 0-3 months old, and the upcoming months will be, say, summertime, then you should buy clothing that is appropriate for the said season. Summer clothes are usually thin and have small holes making it more breathable and comfortable for your baby.

On the other hand, if it is going to be winter time in a couple of months, you may want to opt for the much thicker clothing like a sweater or a jack instead to take into account the extreme coldness that the said season provides.

Always Be Practical

Most of the baby clothes that you see out there take form over function. Do not be fooled into believing that these seemingly colorful and cute clothing will provide ample protection and comfort to your baby.

Instead of looking for style- always choose one for practicality. What I mean is that you always choose baby clothing that is appropriate for the season (thus giving them ample protection) while also ensuring that the baby is comfortable wearing them for prolonged periods of time.
